Peoria, Ill.—Late Monday evening a severe weather system produced at least one tornado in Northern Illinois touching down in multiple communities including Coal City, Woodhaven and Sublette. Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service (EDS) teams from the Metro Chicago area, Pekin and Kankakee, Illinois were deployed as soon as it was safe to proceed into the damaged areas.

  • Coal City, Illinois – A Tornado touched down in Coal City, where there were reports of heavy damage. The Salvation Army has two mobile kitchens in Coal City, providing food and water since responding late Monday night.
  • Sublette, Illinois – A tornado was reported in this small town, leaving flooded roads and much damage. Sublette is south of Dixon, in Lee County, Illinois. A response from Salvation Army teams is being assessed.
  • Woodhaven, Illinois - Woodhaven is near Mendota, Illinois. A tornado touched down in this area and Salvation Army assessment teams are on scene.

Additional flooding concerns are being assessed near Watseka, Illinois as well and flooding issues remain on the Illinois River at Ottawa to Marseilles and in Peoria as well.
